Point Walter

Natural Area Management & Services have been awarded the Point Walter Restoration Project by the City of Melville. Point Walter is a popular recreational node along the Melville foreshore, with the iconic Point Walter sand spit the area is known for kite-surfing, wind-surfing, fishing, swimming, water-skiing, boating and picnicking. Continual erosion of the beach has impacted the amenity of the area with large tree roots being undercut and the functionality of the infrastructure being threatened.

The project is aimed at increasing the local amenity through improved access and erosion control. The key components include brush mattressing with the reintroduction of locally endemic plants, replenishment and creation of rock headlands, installation of gabion cages with seating and stepped access to the beach and installation of timber decks and ramps.

Stage 1 works commenced in March 2012 and will be completed by the end of July 2012. Stage 2 works will then commence in September 2012 with Stage 3 works starting in June 2013.
